As
a sculptor, I use a variety of traditional and nontraditional materials ranging
from found circuit boards to industrial grating and to board games or
traditional metal casting. I’m
interested in exploring ways to transform these materials in order to subvert a
viewer’s expectations and engage their focus on the overlooked beauty of the
objects that surround our everyday lives.
The juxtaposition of familiar forms with unexpected combinations is both
provocative and whimsical.
I
am interested in interactive artwork. I
have been exploring how to include the viewer and get past the preconceived
belief that art cannot be touched. I am
interested in how people react not only to what they see but also to what they
feel. I explore a wide range of textures
through casting of metal and resin to generate emotional reactions. We experience our world through all of our
senses and to leave the sense of touch out of the observation of an art piece
looses a large part of our understanding of it.
I
feel it is important to make strong connections with the world around us
whether it is through the everyday objects around us or the elegant artwork in
our lives. This emotional or
intellectual connection can be stronger when the everyday object blends with
artwork. This can make us question what
we understand and strengthen the complexity of new associations in our lives.
